Camber Celebrates 15 Years of Success!

Camber Pharmaceuticals was established in 2007 as the sales and marketing entity for Hetero’s prescription products in the US market. Hetero is one of the world’s largest producers of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and offers over 300 finished dose pharmaceutical products globally.

During the past 15 years, Camber has grown to offer hundreds of products such as prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and specialty products spanning many therapeutic areas. The company operates multiple warehouses and distribution centers in the United States, with nearly a half million square feet of storage capacity.

To help commemorate this 15-year milestone, Camber created a short video highlighting some of the organization’s accomplishments.  See the two-minute video here.

History of Camber and Hetero Operations in the United States

In the early 2000s, Hetero recognized an opportunity to expand its portfolio by offering finished dose pharmaceutical products, in addition to its flourishing API business in the US market. Hetero has been developing and producing APIs since 1993 and maintains the largest API facility in all of Asia.

By 2007, Camber Pharmaceuticals had been established in the United States to promote and distribute finished dose products. At the time, the organization had two generic medications available. Within a year, the portfolio grew to eight generic medications, with a strong focus on antiretroviral drugs.

To keep up with growing demand, Hetero formed Ascent Pharmaceuticals in Central Islip, NY, in 2012 to further support product development and production. Ascent produces approximately 20 percent of the generic products offered by Camber Pharmaceuticals. By 2014, Camber was recognized as one of the fastest-growing generic drug companies in the United States. That same year, the organization launched Camber Consumer Care to manage over-the-counter distribution and sales in the United States.

In 2017, Hetero added a second US manufacturing facility in New York called Evaric Pharmaceuticals to further expand domestic production and increase capacity. XLCare Pharmaceuticals was formed by Hetero in 2019, as the US government started to become a larger account with unique requirements. In 2020, Camber launched its 80th prescription product and was rapidly outgrowing its existing headquarters and warehouse. A second location in Piscataway, NJ was acquired in 2021, giving the organization over 350,000 sq. ft. of inventory space in the United States. Early in 2022, Camber Specialty was created to focus on specialty pharmaceutical products including injectable medications and generic oncology drugs. Some recent studies have indicated that two-thirds of all new drug launches will be classified as “specialty” by 2023.

Camber Pharmaceuticals is on pace to double its portfolio offerings by 2025, with over 200 generic drugs. Camber’s mission is to provide unwavering access to affordable, life-saving medicines that improve the health of the patients we serve every day. In these unprecedented times, we want to assure our customers that Camber is doing everything possible to provide an uninterrupted supply of all our essential medicines.
